The Climbing Center is Knoxville’s original rock climbing gym and a great fit for active kids and teens who love physical challenges. Opened in 1997, it was one of the first climbing facilities in the South — and it was also where the nation’s first high school climbing league formed.
What kids can do:
Bouldering — 8 unique sections that reset weekly, including a topout boulder inspired by classic local outdoor climbs. No harness needed — just show up.
Toprope and Autobelay — 14 interchangeable topropes and 4 autobelays reaching over 37 feet. Routes are freshly set regularly, so there’s always something new to try. Autobelays are perfect for beginners — no partner required.
Lead Climbing — A steep lead area with roughly 6 quickdraws per route, accessible by certification or lead class.
Youth Climbing Club — A seasonal coaching program for young athletes of all levels.
Gear rental is available — harnesses, belay devices, shoes, and chalk. The facility also offers classes and clinics for all skill levels.
Hours: Weekdays 12–7 PM, Weekends 12–6 PM
Parking: On Vandeventer Ave. behind River Sports Outfitters.
The Climbing Center is also a great spot for birthday parties — they have both outdoor and upstairs event spaces available.
