🐉 Blount County Public Library Dungeons & Dragons Club
The Blount County Public Library runs a weekly Dungeons & Dragons club that's perfect for homeschoolers and kids who love creative storytelling, strategic thinking, and making new friends.
When: Tuesdays 5:30–8:00 PM Who: Weekly campaigns designed for various age groups and experience levels. New players are always welcome - the library has groups for first-timers as well as experienced players.
What to expect: This isn't just about playing a game - it's about building reading skills, creative writing, social interaction, and problem-solving. Kids follow along with a storyline, make decisions that affect the narrative, and work together as a team. Parents can expect to see improvements in their child's confidence, reading comprehension, and collaborative skills.
Pro tip: No prior D&D experience needed! The librarians and volunteer game masters are experienced at teaching beginners. Each session is about 2-3 hours, which is perfect for keeping kids engaged without burnout. Many parents report their kids look forward to Tuesday nights as much as I do.
Location: Blount County Public Library - Main Branch (508 N Cusick St, Maryville, TN 37804) - same location as the Chess Club and Teen Anime Club. Just check the library calendar for exact dates.
Bonus: If your kid loves this, they might also enjoy the library's Teen Anime Club (first three Thursdays of the month at 4:00 PM) or the library's regular storytimes for younger kids.
