The Museum of Appalachia
The Museum of Appalachia is a Smithsonian Affiliate living-history museum set on 65 picturesque acres in Clinton, Tennessee — a family favorite for East Tennessee kids and history lovers. Kids can wander through a recreated Appalachian pioneer community of 35 original log cabins, barns, a one-room schoolhouse, churches, and working gardens, and meet the farm animals that roam the grounds. Three exhibit buildings hold tens of thousands of artifacts, including folk art, handmade quilts, musical instruments, baskets, and Native American items.
It is one of the most complete and authentic recreations of pioneer Appalachian life in the world, and it makes a great day trip from Maryville or Knoxville. On-site is a restaurant serving Southern Appalachian country cooking (daily lunch specials 11am-2pm) and a gift shop full of locally made products.
Hours (September & October): 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Monday-Friday; 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM Saturday & Sunday. Hours vary by season (longer in summer, shorter in winter); closed Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Day.
Admission: Adults (18-64) $20; Seniors (65+) $18; Military & First Responders $18; Youth (6-17) $10; Children under 6 free with parent; Family rate (2 adults + up to 6 kids ages 6-17) $50. Admission may be higher during special events.
