The Smoky Mountain Alpine Coaster bills itself as the longest downhill roller-coaster track in the United States — a sled-style coaster riders control themselves along a winding track through the woods above Pigeon Forge. It is a real thrill ride for older kids and adults, and younger children can ride along as passengers.
Who can ride: Riders must be at least 56 inches tall (and 16 years old) to drive a sled solo. Kids as short as 38 inches can ride as a passenger with a driver who is 16+ and at least 56 inches tall. No set minimum age for passengers. There is also a maximum height of 84 inches.
Hours: Monday–Thursday 10am–10pm, Friday–Saturday 10am–11pm, Sunday 10am–10pm. Hours are subject to change seasonally, so check the coaster Facebook page before heading out.
Location: 867 Wears Valley Road, Pigeon Forge, TN 37863 — about a 45-minute drive from Maryville on US-321 through the Smokies.
