Late July in Maryville: Camp Wrap-Ups, Pool Closures, and What To Plan Next
We are hitting that stretch of summer where everything slows a little. The big camp sessions are ending, parents who managed to secure summer childcare are breathing easier, and the usual summer noise in town settles into something quieter.
Here is what is still running in Maryville through late July and into August, and what to keep in mind as the season wraps up.
Pools and splash pads
John Sevier Pool and Springbrook Pool are still going. They typically run through early August, but the exact closing dates shift year to year depending on staffing and weather. Check the Blount County Parks and Rec page for the latest schedule - they post closures and extended hours when needed.
Splash pads across Maryville usually stay open through the summer. The ones at Levitt AMP park, Clayton Park, and the various neighborhood locations tend to shut down around the same time the pools do. If you are using them regularly, go while you still can.
Levitt AMP Maryville concerts
Still happening every Thursday through July 30. Free, family-friendly, at Jack Greene Park. This is one of those programs that fills up early even though there is no cost. Bring lawn chairs, a blanket, and maybe a snack from one of the food trucks that usually show up. Doors at 7, music starts around 7:30.
Summer camps wrapping up
Most of the Blount County Parks and Rec camp sessions run through late July. The K-POP Dance Party, Ninja Warrior, Superhero Academy, and nature camps at Springbrook Park tend to end their last session between July 24 and July 31 depending on the program.
If you registered for a late-July session, double-check that the dates did not get shifted - Parks and Rec has changed schedules mid-season in the past.
Church camps like Connect Camp at Blount Community Church and Camp Tipton also run through July. These tend to book up faster than the Parks and Rec options.
What closes soon
Most summer day camp sessions end the last week of July or the first week of August. If your kid is in a program, the last day is probably coming up fast.
Some private camps and enrichment programs end earlier - mid-July is common for week-long specialty camps. Check your registration confirmation.
August planning
This is when a lot of parents start looking ahead. A few things to keep in mind:
- School registration: Maryville City Schools and Blount County Schools both have their registration windows in August. Even if your kid is in a private or homeschool program, the dates are worth noting.
- After-school programs: If you need care after school starts in August, a lot of programs fill up by late July. Maryville City Schools runs an after-school care program that is worth looking at if you are working parents.
- Homeschool co-ops: Most co-ops in the Maryville area start their fall sessions in late August. If you are part of a group like Foothills Forest School or a local co-op, they will be sending out schedules soon.
- Blount County Fair: Mark your calendar for September 16-20 at the fairgrounds. There is a kids zone, 4-H exhibits, and free admission for kids under certain ages. The full schedule drops on their website.
What is still open all summer - Blount County Public Library story times and summer reading programs - The Maryville Greenway (open year-round, best in early morning or evening) - Downtown Maryville events (Summer on Broadway runs through September) - Farmers Market at Founders Square on Saturdays through October
The thing about late July in Maryville is that it is quiet in a good way. The heat has not broken yet, but the rush of summer has. It is a good time to visit places without the crowd, catch a Levitt concert with empty lawn chairs, and figure out what August looks like for your family.
