Early August in Maryville: What Is Still Open, What Just Started, and What To Plan For

August 07, 2026 Β· by Mary

School is back in session. The pool season is winding down. But Maryville still has more going on this month than most parents realize.

Here is what is actually open, what just started, and what to plan for the next few weeks.

What Is Still Running This Month

The Maryville Farmers Market β€” Saturdays, 8:30–11:30 AM at Founders Square. The season runs through November 14, so it is in full swing right now. Locals are still pulling in fresh produce, baked goods, and crafts. August still has tomatoes, peaches, green beans, and corn coming out of the ground. The August craft day was July 18 β€” the next one falls later this month.

Splash pads are open β€” the city splash pads at Bicentennial Greenbelt Park and at John Sevier Park are still running during park hours. They typically close when the pools close (late August/early September), so if your kids want to use them, do it soon.

The Maryville-Alcoa Greenway β€” still open dawn to dusk, and it is cooler on the trails now that the kids are back in school. Morning walks are noticeably quieter.

What Just Ended

The Levitt AMP Maryville concert series wrapped up its last concert on Thursday, July 30. The Charles West Amphitheater at Jack Greene Park will be quiet through the fall β€” no more free live music there until June 2027.

Most summer camps have ended. Blount County Parks & Rec summer day camps wrapped up in late July/early August. Camp Tipton, the YMCA summer camps, and the various specialty camps are done for the season.

John Sevier Pool and Springbrook Pool β€” their status for the rest of August depends on the city schedule. Last I checked, they run through Labor Day, but check the Parks & Rec website for final closing dates.

What Just Started (or Is Starting Very Soon)

The Knight School Youth Chess Program at the Everett Recreation Center β€” session 1 runs Wednesdays, September 2 through October 14, for $88 per 6-week session. It is organized through Blount County Parks & Rec. If your kid likes strategy games, this is a solid option.

Dance classes at Stretch-n-Grow β€” the Dance Stars program starts September 2 at the Everett Recreation Center. Sessions run 6 weeks each, $99 for the fall session ($198 for the full fall-spring session with recital). There is also a new Dancing Tots class starting September 1 for toddlers at Springbrook.

Gymnastics tumbling β€” the back handspring and tumbling class starts August 25 at the Everett Recreation Center with Micah McCarter. $88 per 6-week session. The beginner gymnastics class for preschoolers starts the same day at $78.

Karate β€” Maryville Isshin-Ryu Karate School is accepting new students any time. Ages 7-12 class is Wednesdays at 6–7:30 PM at Springbrook Rec ($60 per quarter). Teens and adults are Mondays and Thursdays at 7–8:30 PM.

Guitar and acting classes β€” at the Everett Recreation Center starting September 10. Guitar is Thursdays at 4:30–5:30 PM ($110 for 6 weeks). Acting for younger kids is Thursdays at 4:30–5:30 PM ($110). Drama for older kids starts at 5:40 PM ($110).

McQueen Pottery Studio β€” the fall session starts September 14 at Studio 212 (934 East Broadway Avenue). Mondays at 5:15–6:15 PM, $85 for a 4-week session. All materials and firings included. Ages 6 and up.

Tinkergarten β€” sessions are starting up for fall. Check wild-sprouts.org for exact dates, but most fall sessions begin the second week of September.

What To Plan For Now

Fall Break (October 5–9, 2026) β€” Blount County Schools is off that week. The Parks & Rec Pumpkin Power Camp runs October 7–9. Register early; it fills fast.

Parks & Rec fall registration β€” for most of the programs listed above, registration is through parksrec.com. You do not register online for some programs β€” you go in person or call. The number is (865) 983-9244. Call early for the popular ones like chess, karate, and pottery.

BCS sports β€” Blount County Schools’ fall sports programs should have their registration open or opening soon. Check with your child’s school for specifics on football, soccer, volleyball, and cross country.

MCS after-school care β€” if your schedule has changed since the school year started, reach out to Adventure Club After-School Care at Maryville City Schools. They are at (865) 983-8568.

A Quick Note

I know it feels weird to be writing a fall guide in August. But I have found that parents in this area are always asking β€œwhat is starting?” and β€œwhen do I need to register?” β€” so I am trying to answer those questions while the answers are still fresh.

If you know about a program that is starting in Maryville or Alcoa that I missed here, send me a note and I will add it.
