Blount County & Maryville Fall Break 2026: The Week Is October 5-9, and the Calendar Is Wide Open
Both Blount County Schools and Maryville City Schools are off the week of Monday, October 5 through Friday, October 9, 2026. No staff and no students that week, according to the official district calendars, so if you weren't paying attention to the school calendar yet, now's the time to plan.
The timing is actually nice for a fall break. October 5-9 is right in that sweet spot where the weather has cooled off, the leaves are starting to turn in the mountains, and the big October weekends haven't all piled up on top of each other yet. A lot of families treat this week as a "staycation" week, and honestly it's one of the better ones for it, because there's no holiday rush and most local parks and trails are quiet on a weekday morning.
What's actually going on that week
The Maryville Farmers Market keeps running through November, so Saturday, October 10 still has pickups at the downtown market if you want to grab local produce and fall baking apples. Maple Lane Farms near Greenback is open weekends through October 31 for its 28th annual corn maze and pumpkin patch if you'd rather save the farm day for a Saturday or Sunday when nobody's rushing.
During the actual Mon-Fri school days, the low-key wins are the things that never shut down for a holiday: the Maryville Alcoa Greenway for a scooter ride, the playgrounds at Sandy Springs Park and nearby Alcoa parks, and the Blount County Public Library, which is an easy place to spend an afternoon when you don't want to pay for anything.
One honest note
Fall break tends to be a quiet week for organized kids' programming. Some recreation classes pause, and day camps are scarce because it's such a short window. If you're counting on something scheduled that week, call ahead and confirm rather than assuming a class or club is running. The one consistent exception is that the weather is usually good enough that you can fill most of the week outdoors without a plan.
If you're off that same week as your kids, treat yourself to a couple of the shorter mountain hikes near Townsend โ the ones that don't need a full day โ and save the long drive for the weekend. The week itself is the perfect chance to do nothing expensive and still feel like a break.
